The food took forever. We were the only ones there and we ordered the fish wrap. I have no idea how that could take 20 minutes to make. The fish tasted microwaved. They said farm-to-table, but I doubt that...b/c this food kind of sucked. Also their food descriptions were terrible. Why does the tropical fish wrap have pickled onions and olives?!

I don't think I can get enough of this place. I love the atmosphere, albite the seating is first come first serve and sometimes people like to linger ( myself included). There is something refreshing about eating out in the open air and when weather permits, this is the place for it. The food is always fresh and the menu changing depending on what the local market had to offer - I love that aspect of it. Eat local and support local. Done in a rush when you come here to eat. Do sit back , relax, enjoy the scenery, people watch , and just breath. The prices are not the lowest in town so be prepared for that, but the food ,service and atmosphere all play into that in my opinion. If you only try the place make sure to do so for breakfast, lunch, and dinner !

Wonderful food, service, and atmosphere BUT there are some things you should consider before dining here. 1. Potential for long wait for food. There is only 1 chef to prepare and plate all the food. He is talented, but if there are already 4 tables seated before you, you should be prepared to wait over 75 minutes for your salad/appetizer and 1hr 20 min for the entrees. I personally think this restaurant should not have more than 4 tables due to how short staffed they are. The chef and waiter apologized profusely for the long wait for food. The owner, not so apologetic, but rather suggested we weren't worldly diners for being upset about the long wait. Also, she didn't appear to help the ONE waiter. Reservations don't matter. If 4 groups of people walk in without a res and get seated 5 minutes before your res, they all get served before you. 2. Don't come here with people who don't like waiting a long time for food.

The menu changes daily with their farm to table mentality. The chefs always whip up great meals that will fill you up. The chef typically comes out and greets you while you're eating. It's a bit on the pricey side but you can't beat the unique, outside atmosphere and the food will knock your socks off. I try to stop by here every time I come to St Augustine, even if it's just for appetizers. Great job to the staff! Great times and highly recommend.

We were headed to another restaurant and were a lil lost. When asking the hostess for directions we noted the menu and the outside atmosphere so we thought wth? Amazing staff, AND amazing food!!! Absolutely loved the atmosphere. We are outdoors people so it was perfect. Wish our back yard looked the same ! Definitely recommended!

Service was good and it was cool eating in the garden. Food was not so cool, overpriced/overcooked tuna with frozen vegetables and a small mound of unseasoned white rice. Girlfriends mussels were luke warm and tasted strange, would not recommend.

Awesome and quaint. Definitely a great find. Great coffee and the menu offers a lot of choices

WOW - this place is a TERRIBLE. This is going to be one of my most lengthy reviews, no need to read unless you have the time. Overall, this place needs to go out of business -- the treatment of both the customers and more importantly their staff is unbelievable. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE BUSINESS!!! We were enticed by the outdoor courtyard ambiance and the somewhat positive reviews on the food. Being avid yelpers, we were prepared for the long wait times in between food. To start, we ordered the blue crab dip. Since it was taking a while, we asked for bread to tide us over (we were starving). The waiter came back and said the chef refused to give us bread until in between our appetizer and meal course. Ok - whatever, he has a flow, we're starving, but we can get passed this right? Crab dip comes out, it's delicious with a HUGE portion of dip and maybe 8 small crostinis. We made it not even half way through (while piling the dip on the crostinis) before we needed more. Asked the waiter for more crostini so we could finish the dip, he came back and said the chef "got red in the face" and refused to give us more crostini. UMM WHAT?? I'm just trying to finish your food sir. Bread course comes finally arrives, so we just use that bread to finish the dip. Bread course was good, so we were still trying to enjoy the experience. Entree course. I ordered prime rib with cheddar cheese mashed potatoes and asparagus. Friend ordered scallop linguini. Scallops come out first on top of a caprese salad?? Wait where's the LINGUINI? Asked for the linguini, the waiter was visibly nervous to go tell the chef. Side of oily linguini comes out after the scallops had gotten cold. Luckily for me I had the caprese salad to eat while I waited because the prime rib this "amazing chef" tried to serve me was a piece of leather. Honestly the most overcooked piece of meat I had ever seen - WHO EATS PRIME RIB WELL DONE. I reluctantly told the waiter that it needed to be sent back and returned to me at medium rare. It returned to me medium to medium well. I was over it so I just ate it even though it was terrible. The waiter said that the chef felt his first preparation was medium rare and he was MAD that I sent it back, I said "let me talk to him because that was actually leather." The mashed potatoes were starchy and disgusting, I didn't eat them. I ate the not seasoned asparagus and called it a night. Now the owner. The wait staff here is admittedly terrified of her, and I can see why, she is an evil woman, not meant to be in the service business. She stopped by our table to ask how the food was. I told her I was actually unhappy as the preparation of the meat was not good. A normal owner would be horrified - she WALKED AWAY MID SENTENCE - never to return. Our experience was so bad, that our lovely waiter told us not to tip him because the chef gets 30% anyways. OH MY GOD - how did we get to this point?? He also told us that the wait staff turns over every 3 weeks because they are treated horribly by both the owner and the chef. We were not surprised, not only from our experience, but also saw the owner yelling at the staff the entire night. We gave our waiter cash for tip because he was visibly upset over having to be at this establishment and left.

We were looking for a vegetarian restaurant and came across this one - the ambience was awesome, all the tables were in a beautiful flower garden, the food tasted great as well - the chef actually customized the dish and made it vegetarian for us...made for a great night!
(5)Nicole G.
The setting was awesome. The food was so so. I really liked the app we had which was a scallop dish. However, my husband and I felt like the entrees we had were just ok. When we compared the food and experience to the price, well, we won't be going back. I just wouldn't be able to justify spending that again. We also were STARVING, so the portion sizes just weren't enough that night. We ended up getting more food someplace else. Maybe it was just that night, but I was disappointed
(2)Kristin B.
Absolutely outstanding all-around. We went for breakfast and enjoyed sitting outside and watching the city wake up and could hear our breakfast being made from scratch. The menu was simple and fresh. We could taste the care and thought put into it. As horse drawn carriages came by we finished with sparkling water. The anti-chain restaurant restaurant.

I thought I was being punked. I expected mario batali to walk out and the food channel to be filming a show. Every bite of every portion was excellent. I am a food snob and not easy to please. Holy cow this place is great. Wine was great too. Seating was wierd but fun. Can't wait to go back. Wow.

We only had their signature dessert and it was PERFECT! We had dinner else where and walked all over town looking for dessert. We must have walked into more than 5 ice cream and coffee shops and could not find what we wanted. This place is so quaint, peaceful and with a European feel. It's just a 2 minute walk from A1A and the famous Fort. They offer wonderful outside seating in a garden with romantic lights. The staff was super friendly and incredibly inviting. The ladies at the entrance told us that we would absolutely love their signature dessert "Better than sex" and we had 2 because it was so good.

We ate dinner here on the 4th of July & got to watch the fireworks from our outdoor table. It is a farm to table restaurant so the menu changes daily for dinner. So you know you are the finest fresh ingredients available. The perks of this restaurant were excellent food and a wonderful spot to watch the fireworks outside of the crowds and a unique dining experience. The downsides were that there was no bathroom available so you had to walk about 5min away to the public restroom (which took 10min to find) & then you had to stand in a long line for one of 3 stalls. The service was the slowest I have ever experienced. It literally took us over 2hours to receive & eat our appetizers, main dishes, & desserts. Do not, I repeat DO NOT, go there if you are in a rush. Then there is a feeling like you are on display. I didn't mind it but you might. We were seated right by the road so many people kept leaning over to look at what we were eating. We had stone claw crab & raw blue point oysters with avocado & horseradish sauce for our appetizers. Both were excellent. The oysters especially were our favorite. While the stone claw crab was excellent, we were only given 1 pair of regular crab cracker. First we were sharing the appetizers so that meant one of us was always waiting to use it. Second, stone crab claws are HARD. I mean really hard. It was almost impossible for us to break them apart. We literally had sore hands by the time we finished. For our main dishes we had Grouper Stuffed with Blue Crab & Parmesan Crusted Red Snapper. Both were excellent but our clear favorite was the grouper. However by the time they arrived to our table it was pitch black outside & the outdoor lighting was pretty much non-existent making it impossible to see what we were eating. Now dessert was my absolute favorite part of the meal. My husband had the cheesecake & I had a dessert called Better Than Sex. It was to die for. I would continue to go back here just for this dessert. I would definitely recommend this as long as you're not in a rush & come prepared to wait.

Wow! This was the perfect accident for dinner! The farm-to-table dinner menu caught my attention. And the decorative touches to the hut itself and outdoor seating convinced me that this was a place worth trying. My fiancé and I stopped in for a somewhat early dinner. I'm glad we came early because as we later discovered, the kitchen is tiny and just enough room for one chef to do all the work. Anyway, we started with the tempura shrimp served with an amazing mango sauce. The shrimp were large and we got quite a few of them; they did no skimp on the quantity. I hear the menu changes daily so you may not be so lucky to taste the divine entrees we ordered. I received a thick filet of blackened grouper, topped with pickled red onions, and served on creamy avocado slices and cilantro black bean rice. Wow! My fiancé loved his salmon served with horseradish Hollandaise on potatoes and asparagus. I liked the quirks of brown paper towel napkins, 3-prong forks, mason jars for glasses, and water in a bottle with a stopper. These servings totaled $75. So yes, it is pricey but oh so worth it, if indeed you appreciate culinary creativity and fresh foods and flavors. We enjoyed our dinner so much that we later returned of dessert. I am a key like pie fan so I ordered theirs and I was not disappointed. Less sweet than normal, which is a good thing in my book. Not dyed so it's a lighter color. Super fluffy! Garnished with fresh whipped cream and honey. We will be back!

Very quaint English Garden feel to the outdoor dining area. Inside, there's exactly one table, which we happily occupied on a very rainy night. Wendy is the owner and her new chef Taj were both delightful, accommodating and engaging. Started with chips, homemade salsa and hummus....gone in no time. Chips tasted like low-end store-bought, but that was the only minus. I ordered a plain house salad that was one of the prettiest and freshest things I'd seen in a long time. Avocado Ranch dressing was quite delish. Good size portion but not overwhelmingly so. Hubby had the fresh fish of the day, Perch, which was served with couscous and a small veggie. The star of the meal was a tie between the bruschetta - crunchy bread, creamy goad cheese and fresh basil with a drizzle of something delish! Wendy was nice enough to bring a large slice of homemade Key Lime pie so we could celebrate Ross's birthday. She even gave it to us complimentary. Overall, if you enjoy good food, really REALLY good food, prepared with style and creativity and can wait a few minutes between courses, this place is for you. For four of us diners, 2 entrees, 2 appetizers, 2 salads and 2 full bottles of wine, the tab was around $86USD before gratuity. Neat history to be learned in this dining establishment and we encourage you to check out our pictures and go! Please report back if you do! lauren and Ross in TX

This place was a treat. Lox and bagels- delicious! Mimosas- decent. I had a great time just enjoying people pass by. Wish the ordering process was a little bit more organized.

I will start by saying the food was amazing and the chef was extremely friendly!!! Unfortunately (as I've seen in other reviews as well) the owner- a frazzled looking blond woman with a British accent and wearing sweat pants was curt with us and mocked us for not having seen the additional outside seating. She seemed like a gruff local rather than management. She reprimanded both the chef inside the restaurant (We couldn't see what he could've done to deserve this as he was the redeeming factor of the place). She also owns the coffee shop next door and we overheard her hollering at the attendant there as well. I will repeat that the food was fantastic and the chef was very friendly!!!! The owner/receptionist was abrasive and nearly ruined the whole experience. Se should do herself a favor and not hang around during meal hours.
(2)Tina J.
Absolutely magical.....the menu that changes daily, the beautiful garden, the fresh and creative dishes, the staff and of course the chefs who where kind enough to say hello on a very busy 4th July evening...all of it magical! Couldn't have had a more perfect evening or meal...Will be our first stop on our next visit to St Augustine....can't wait to try their breakfast.

Breakfast on a Monday morning. Food was fantastic. Our group had eggs, waffles, bagel, bacon, etc., and everything was great. Their french vanilla coffee was also superb. When the weather is nice, do yourself a favor and go sit out and enjoy the ambiance. Plan on service to be slow, but with a smile, as there are just 2 ladies running the whole operation, but who cares, it has great food, reasonably priced, and fun.

You had me at fried green tomatoes. I stopped by the Gourmet Hut with my sixteen year old daughter and her friend for a late bite of lunch. The fried green tomatoes caught my attention along with the friendly staff that greeted us outside. The outdoor garden seating was just lovely. We were taken to a quaint table under a gazebo. The table was covered with a cute burlap table cloth and a charming antique brass chandelier covered with string lights hung overhead. How delightful is that? We started our dining experience with the fried green tomatoes topped with strawberries and balsamic glaze -- so delicious! We were treated to a tray of delectable warm bread compliments of the chef for having to wait on our main food to be served. It was well worth the wait! My daughter's friend and I both ordered the spinach and berry salad with balsamic dressing, which were loaded with blueberries, raspberries, tomatoes and walnuts. My daughter had calamari over a bed of arugula. We all agreed the salads were fresh and delicious. Both girls also ordered the bubble tea and loved every sip. Our waitress was graceful, personable and paid close attention to details; making sure our water glasses were never empty and that our food was to our liking. The only negative comment I have -- I feel like it's a little overpriced. Regardless, I will definitely return here again and I highly recommend that you try it.

We had an amazing breakfast there. Everything was fresh and delicious, and a great dining atmosphere sitting in the gardens.
(5)Alex L.
One guy in the kitchen, so not the best for huge groups. But that one guy sure knows how to make a breakfast burrito! (And other stuff too.) Fun outdoor seating. And the coffee next door was great. They were out of champagne for Mimosas, which was a bummer. But overall a recommend from me!

While my wife and I were out for our morning walk downtown, we happened upon The Gourmet Hut. After taking a look at the menu, we decided to try it for the first time. Outstanding! The setting is great with views of Castillo De San Marcos and Matanzas River. We placed our order inside and took our seat in the quaint courtyard seating area. I ordered Mexican Scrambled Egss and my wife ordered the Breakfast Burrito. We would share so we could each try both entrees. The ingredients were obviously fresh and tasted delicious. The salsa had to be homemade. There is no way it could have been purchased. The chorizo sausage and bacon in the Mexican Scrambled Eggs was excellent. The avacado in the Breakfast Burrito tasted like it had been picked that morning. Service was great. Every employee was friendly and acted as if they enjoyed working there. We will definitely return and highly recommend. Next time will be most likely at night. The courtyard looks like a great place to spend an evening in St Augustine with a glass of wine.

Don't come here with a group. This place is ideal for a quick bite for two on a nice day (outdoor seating only). We came here for brunch with a group of 6; it is terribly understaffed so the dishes came out one at a time and we all ate separately. When the dishes did finally come out a few of them were made wrong : the eggs were overlooked in the Eggs Benedict (not runny at all), the omelette that was supposed to not have ham and mushrooms had only ham and mushrooms, and one of the dishes never even came out at all so we had to cancel it because we were so tired of waiting and everyone had eaten already. The interesting part about the omelette was that the chef had explicitly asked what not to put into the omelette, but apparently he didn't listen to his own question. The breakfast burrito and yogurts were good though. The one waiter didn't tend to us at all so we were basically on our own as far as drink orders and condiments went. Luckily there is a coffee shop next door so we were all able to have delicious beverages anyways. Maybe if they hired a few more people this place would be awesome but it seems like an awfully large undertaking for two people.
(2)Kim S.
LOOOONG WAIT, BUT FOOD WAS GREAT! We had breakfast the day we were leaving St.Augustine and although it took quite some time to get our order, the food was so good we forgot all about the wait. And the atmosphere really helped out too.
(4)Ethan T.
You will wait a bit for your food, but like the coffee next door, the wait is worthwhile. Go in, order at the counter, both the breakfast sandwich, and the breakfast burrito are really good. Then head outside, claim a table around the open courtyard, or go to the coffee shack and get your coffee while you wait. The cook, who often seems to be the only one doing everything, will bring you your food. A fun part of the experience is that sometimes the cook will announce he has to wash dishes, go down the street for supplies, or some random need, and because of this, cooking will be delayed. So, come here for a casual, yummy breakfast if you have time to relax and enjoy the morning. I promise this place is more fun and a better time than exploring the Disney like atmosphere that permeates the streets around the fort.

This place isn't anything special. And normally that would be fine, but I had higher expectations due to the high Yelp reviews, the high price, and based on the recommendation of our B&B host. First off, we didn't get what we ordered nor the quality we expected. Each night the chef decides on what the dinner menu would be (which would suggest that they are trying to do seasonal, regional, fresh catch of the day type of cuisine - exciting) but in this case, it appears that might just be a misassumption on our part. I ordered the crispy snapper with garlic mash and sautéed kale, and my partner ordered the catch of the day, the grouper, cooked as per the chefs recommendation. Simple - how could this go wrong? Well....our food arrived luke warm and delayed, my sides were different (not the garlic mash and kale I ordered), and the fish is no longer crispy as it was covered by blah/generic sweet and sour sauce you can buy at your local Asian grocery store. Blah for $34. Moreover, my partner's grouper had no taste - another blah for $24. We also got wine based on their recommendation, specifically to pair eith the rest if the meal, and it tasted like it was from the box variety. Another blah. Service was nice and responsive. If you're a real foodie, skip this place. There are just simply better options out there for less $.

We asked the lady at Crucial Coffee where to eat in St Augustine, and she suggested The Gourmet Hut right next door. It's owned by the same family! (They're from South Africa and have an adorable accents - at least to someone who lives in Ohio) They buy fresh food at the market, so their menu changes daily. This food is fabulous. It's not your typical bar food found at many of the restaurants here. I tried their pan seared grouper wrap that had carrots, ginger, and a fresh mango salsa... it was delightful. We went on Monday when they have their 1/2 off a bottle of wine special (which I believe is Tuesdays as well). Since we saved on the wine, we had dessert too! You must try their key lime pie and tiramisu. It was SOOO good that we pre-ordered 2 key lime pies and 1 tiramisu to drive back with us to Ohio. When we picked them up the morning we left, we stopped for breakfast, too. Breakfast was also fabulous. And their coffee - it was the best coffee I had my entire trip. Since they own Crucial Coffee next door, that's where it's brewed! Love this place. Will definitely return.

Quirky little place we happened onto for lunch. Amazing fresh food with original pairings like mahi fish burrito with avocado, mango and pickled ginger. Great coffee next door too.

It took us two days to eat here because we lost it. We had seen it from a distance, too far away to see the name, but vowed to return to at least look at the menu. It just looked like a place we would be interested in, small and overgrown with foliage, outdoor tables and an intensely personal feel to it. And that's just from a glimpse that we got of it a block away as it passed briefly into our field of view through an opening between two closer buildings. The next day we followed our earlier path but couldn't find it again, that slightly hazy recollection of the night before maybe just a little softened by a couple of martinis... We only knew that we had seen it from a distance across a grassy area between two buildings visible only for a moment along Avenida Menendez. Finally we found it on what I think was our third pass (we were determined, after all) and put in an order with the friendly gentleman at the counter while an equally nice woman helped us make a decision on a bottle of wine to have with dinner. We sat outside as the last remnants of light faded away, and with our table lit by a single lantern we enjoyed the perfect weather as we had a glass of wine and waited for our meals. I'm not sure, but I think the name of the panini I had was the Montana. Whatever it was called, it was that perfect combination of soft and crisp that all paninis should be, tender turkey and melted cheese topped with beautiful avocado. The option of hummus as a side was a great surprise, and it didn't disappoint. It was an incredible evening and we can't wait to come back. This is a rare kind of place, so relaxing and enjoyable, and despite its location so near the throngs of tourists wandering up and down St. George, it makes you feel like you know a secret.
(5)Tori R.
Not to be missed. Talked directly to chef and he accommodated vegetarian/gluten-free no problem.
(5)Rishona R.
The most enchanting little place in town! The location alone is good enough reason to eat here but the food is phenomenal!!! Soooo fresh, so flavorful! Don't miss it!!!
(5)Dawn S.
We found this unique little outdoor restaurant while we were wandering down the streets. They had their menu board out, and it was very innovative- just what we wanted! We made a res., and arrived around 7:30- the restaurant only had one other couple . During our hour and a half there- which is how long it was til our entrée came- only 3 other couples were seated. many stopped and looked at the board and went on. We started off with wine and water. The waiter was nice- but unorganized, and seemed frazzled despite the lack of customers After a long wait, the water came, with apologies. The water was luke warm. We asked for ice, another long wait and more apologies. The ice came in a bucket- now the waiter said he needed to find a scoop- which eventually came- it was like a scoop for a sand bucket. The waiter kept going into some kind of storage shed- which seemed to double as a restroom- for supplies. The napkins were brown, flimsy paper napkins like you would find at a burger stand. Bread came- which was fine. We asked for silver ware, and that eventually came too.We had ordered the grouper (as the waiter said it was fresher than the sword) wrapped in bacon with potato croquettes, cherry tomatoes , basil, and balsamic something which was blurred on the chalk board. The grouper was flavorless (it certainly wasn't black or red grouper- we are long time Fla residents and fish eaters) and the pale bacon couldn't help it. The potato "balls" were dry with not much flavor, and the cherry pots just onercooked. There were tiny spots of balsamic whatever around the plate. We returned the entrée- the waiter apologized and said the chef would be over. When the chef came to our table she said she was sorry we didn't like the food, and that she'd had nothing but compliments all night. (At this point, only 3 tables had food.) it would have been better if she hadn't come out! The stone benches, the luke warm water, the bucket and scoop, paper napkins - all would have been part of a unique experience if the food had been edible. There are many other great choices in this city without the " uniqueness"! We finished our evening at Harry's, and we won't return to the Gourmet Hut!

Cute little restaurant with great food. The French chef is adorable and very friendly- he wandered out a few times to check on us to make sure we were enjoying the food. As soon as we ordered (right next to the kitchen), he turned around to what must be his sous chef with a very French "start warming up one of my pastry shells, yes, those ones, just a bit." Fun to see. We came in the early afternoon for a late lunch, so we were the only diners at the restaurant. Most of the tables are outside of the restaurant where you can people-watch. I had the Krab-Avocado-Artichoke Salad. I was expecting Krab aka pollock, but I'm almost positive that the Krab was actually Crab. If so, this is incredibly good value for your money. If not, then the chef is using some awesome form of fake crab that tastes incredible. I highly recommend the salad. It was filling yet light enough that you feel refreshed when you've eaten (instead of bogged down and ready to fall asleep, which often happens when we're on vacation). My husband had some form of gourmet chicken pot pie with a blue-cheese salad. It was good, but I think I made the better choice. :) We also had coffee with our meal, which came from the coffee shop nextdoor. All in all, great experience, and very reasonable prices considering the location.

We stumbled across Gourmet Hut on our way to the Tini Martini Bar. We never made it. It was early dinner time and the wait staff was standing out front promoting the great menu. When they said the menu was all farm to table they had my ear. We were seated in the great garden where we were attentively waited on. We first were given the delicious bread with dipping oil and olives. (On the house) My husband and I shared the middle necks in a delicious garlic cream broth with bread for dipping in the broth. It was very good. Then we both chose fish for our entrée. I hand perfectly cooked salmon on a bed of wilted kale and vegetables. My husband had the mahi mahi served with rice and vegetables. Both were just delicious. We left feeling very full with no room for dessert. I know there have been some mixed reviews but I can say we will definitely go back. I feel that when there are more good reviews then bad you have to give a place a chance. I loved the garden outdoor seating. When we come down from New England to stay in St A's we look for every chance to be outdoors. Thank you Gourmet Hut for a great night.

This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had in my life. Everything was perfect. The food was delicious. I ordered the surf and turf and my boyfriend ordered the lamb. Everything was cooked to order and deliciously tender and savory. We gave our compliments to the chef and he came out and thanked us. It was a very nice gesture. Then the owner comes over and suggested the keylime pie for desert. Every bite of it was heaven. The owner spoke to us and gave us complimentary wine for the desert and it matched perfectly. afterwards, i had a cappucino from the coffee shop and it was exquisite. Lovely evening, great food, interesting setting... I can't wait to go back!

My friend raved about this place so we tried it. Food: The food was delicious, but the soup had bugs in it. I am guessing that was an anomaly & not typical of this place. Before we realized they were bugs, we definitely thought it was yummy! They did refund us for the price of soup, though. I had scalloped potatoes, which were pretty good, and grilled salmon - also ok (I'm not a big fan of salmon though), and husband had lasagna with salad, which were both good. The lasagna was a little cold in the center... presumably it was reheated. The St. Augustine mud (chocolate ice cream and coffee) was refreshing. The food here definitely seems unique and home-made, and well-done... I recommend giving it a try. Atmosphere: A presumably homeless man was playing acoustic guitar just outside of where we sat, which was pleasant and relaxing...we tipped him. There is only outside seating available, but some is covered. Beautiful garden-like atmosphere.

We found this place on YELP! and thought...sounds good. We had avocado salad sandwich with pasta and the Mexican scrambled eggs with wonderful fresh fruit. They have a great porch and side garden patio area outside to enjoy the meal and people watch. You aren't right on the street, but in a nice side yard area with umbrella covered tables. It was a hot morning, but there was a nice breeze through the yard. Wonderful people and the food was great, we are thinking about going back tonight!

My boyfriend and I went on a carriage tour that departed from next door in February, and we spoke to the evening Chef afterwards as he came out when we stopped to read the menu outside. The dinner menu looked amazing, but it was so late by the time we had discovered this place that they were done serving. (A+ btw, to the chef for being willing to promote his restaurant even after hours!) It was because of this interaction that we sought out the little place when my boyfriends parents were in town this weekend. While dinner looked amazing, my advice is this: be leery of brunch. We arrived and were the only customers on a Sunday morning. The hostess was obliging and let us move the two sheltered tables together to fit all 4 of us indoors, as it was drizzly. She took our drink order, but it took a LONG time to make 2 "mango" mimosas. The concept of these was great, but there was no mango flavor, it seemed like mango mixed with orange juice, which was disappointing. When we were ready to order, we went inside to place our orders, and had to wait while she made the drinks. I'm patient and handled it gracefully, but wouldn't it have been better business and hostess sense to pause on the 2 component drink for a second and take our orders so the food could get started? When the food came, the fritattas were good, the ommelette didnt look like anything special-visibly overdone and not unlike something you'd see at a dennys. My dish was terrible. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, which is their most expensive brunch item. My companions all got a side of fresh fruit and potatoes on their plates. I got TWO 1 inch cubes of watermelon and a spoonful of potatoes. Everyone at the table noticed the difference. In addition, when I cut into my eggs, I am not exaggerating when I tell you they were hard boiled. This is a completely inexcusable mistake for anyplace serving poached eggs. By the time the hostess came to ask about our food, I was ready to show her, and instead of pausing to take the time to hear our response, she literally asked while she was walking past the table. I had to stop her on her way back in the building to point out that my eggs were hard boiled. By this time, we were all halfway through our meals and I had no interest in her offer of making me new eggs. Why would that be a solution? 1) If they were HARD BOILED the first time, that demonstrates that the Chef doesn't know how to poach an egg. 2) Eggs Bene hinges on good eggs and good hollandaise, if they make new eggs, and just dump them on the plate, there is no hollandaise. It was a feeble attempt at rectifying the situation. No discount was applied to the bill, although I heard her mention to the chef the idea of taking $2 off for the "inconvenience", which was also ridiculous. Terrible customer service from the blonde woman-this seems to be a theme in the reviews! She should hire someone to hostess for her, since she is obviously driving away business with her lack of customer service skills. Don't care how "pleasant and quirky" you are, if you dont know how to handle a customer service environment, you should have the sense to hire someone who does. All in all, I was embarrassed that we had brought guests to this place. Although the decor and courtyard are beautiful, the service and food did not live up to what we expected based on our previous interaction with the night chef. Having said that, we might be back for dinner since the dinner reviews are good and since the dinner chef was so great that first night, but never again for brunch until some serious changes in attitude and food occur.

This place is absolutely somewhere you should stop by for sandwiches (panini style). I got the hawaiian panini that had ham and chunks of pineapple on it. Outdoor seating is super duper cute. It comes with a side of italian pasta salad, which I was not expecting and complimented the sandwich perfectly. The meal cost $7.41 with tax. I ate everything. The only con was the ham tasted slightly funky---like it was sitting out for too long. But other than that, the combination was delicious. The lady who took our order had some accent to it, and I liked that. **UPDATE** By "ham sitting out too long" I was right. Later on in the night I had a date with the toilet, it was horrible. TMI, I know. But thought you should know. I'd deduct like all stars, but I'm rating it based on how it was at the time. xoxox

We were strolling around looking for a place to eat dinner and found this charming garden restaurant. The food was fantastic but a person who appeared to be the Owner (an older woman) was asking two people to run the entire restaurant, as chef, hostess, bartender, waiter and busboy and then verbally chastising these two hard working people in front of the guests, which was offensive and made everyone feel awkward. She also was asking them to handle the entire restaurant without menus and while asking the chef (who should be in cooking food) to come out and talk to each child about what special thing he could make them. Two large menu boards were being dragged around and propped up all evening for each table then dragged back to the street for passers by and the chef spent as much time outside the kitchen as in the kitchen. They were so understaffed that the number of errors in people's orders and the time spent waiting for everything from drinks to the check became comical for us and our fellow diners. This Owner needs to (1) buy a printer that prints out the daily menu and lists the options for kids, (2) hire at least one more wait person and a busboy and (3) learn to treat her workers with respect both on the restaurant floor and in the kitchen. An extra bonus would be to have a deal with the restaurant next door that provides access to a bathroom for all patrons, not just those who are over 21 years old.

This is a great little outdoor shack that serves good food and is run by great people. Eat something that shows up on the chalkboard menu -- it changes every day and there's no telling what you'll find there. Regardless of what is offered, it will have been made from scratch in-house and to order. Sit outside and people-watch; feel the breeze coming off the bay.

Walking around downtown St. Augustine is really stepping back in time. There is a fort, tiny streets, pirates, taverns, little nooks and crannies, quaint little shops, and the Gourmet Hut. Just walking by and taking a glance beckons a weary walker. The place is from the pages of a fairy tale. Small, tiny, and cozy, covered with trees, plants, brush, vines, flowers, amazing. There are actually two buildings connected with an open air terrace or garden, absolutely charming. Someplace this fairy looking can not have good food, right? Wrong! The chef is an actual French man. He makes classical French and European style food, complete with fanciful sauces and all. As least that is what the owner boost. On this day there were two twiggy teenagers running the show, one handled the building with coffees, teas, shakes, and regular drinks. The other was cafe chef extraordinaire . The owner made an appearance or at least she acted like an owner, smoozed everyone and them disappeared, fairy world? Back to the food. When they say every thing is prepared fresh, they actually mean that. Or it just took a helluva long time to appear on the table. Manhattan Clam Chowder was all clams, thick, rich, bursting with flavors. Blackened fish wrapped with mango, avocado, and salsa. It was an ample fresh portion of fish, miraculously cooked. Tender, flaky, and juicy. The fruits were extremely fresh. Chicken pot pie was a delicious little treat. The pastry was crisp and flaky....did I mention flaky, yes, definite Frenchy. Hot chicken in rich gooey filling rounded out the pie. The passion fruit, mango, guava smoothie was very refreshing. Surprise, surprise, the wait was worth it. Service was delightful and cheery although the wait was long. But hey, back in the day, people actually took a load off and enjoy. Delightful, cozy, charming place, surprisingly good food.

This is an outstanding find. The food is wonderful and prices are great. We'd heard of this place and included it on our "list" but only ended up here after another restaurant said they closed at 9:00pm (we arrived at 9:02.) My husband had the espresso steak and I had the crab cakes. We both LOVED the food. The salad and veg was all very fresh looking and tasting as well. The chef was very friendly and fun to visit with as was the owner. The Gourmet Hut is a place to come to relax and enjoy your food. Listen to the chef's recommendations, he seems to have a 6th sense about which food on his menu will suit each person! We adored the atmosphere, food, and personality of this restaurant. We just may come back here for another dinner before we head home!

My boyfriend and I were celebrating our 3 year anniversary and happened across this charming place after we'd stopped into the starving artist gallery. You sit outside, in a beautiful garden next to the hut covered in very pretty moss and flowers! There are seats inside but why waste the beautiful view of the charming little street it's placed on? It's next to a coffee shop and across from a candle shop that's hands a hammock out for you to lay in after your delicious meal! We went for breakfast around 11 am because it seems to be the only place that serves breakfast past 10! (They do it all day) but they also serve a filet mignon that looked amazing. The food itself was definitely gourmet ad the price was anything but. Nice moderate sized portions but ill take a little less food with a much better quality over a giant bowl of gruelle anyday! Check it out! It's worth the stop!

So sorry to read some positive reviews. Our experience mirrors some of the other reviewers. Lukewarm, overpriced food. Waitress put a course piece if raveling burlap on the table as a table cloth Nd brought brown bathroom paper towels out for napkins. For an average of $20 + for an entree I expect a bit more elegance. My husband and I got our terrible tuna - pulled a piece of panko fried tuna skin out of my mouth, with a dollop of cold mashed sweet potatoes. Our friends waited so long for their food to come out and it was cold so we finally all just paid for the wine we drank and left. I agree with other reviewers. This ace is severely understaffed. You can't have one cook make food for 4 different people and get it all out at the same time and served hot. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!St. Augustine has so many other restaurants that will give you great food for less.

I only ate here once so I'm not confident enough to give it 5 stars, but this is a great little place. When we walked into the unassuming hut we were greeted by an incredibly friendly and funny staff. I could see the kitchen from the ordering area so I knew they used plenty of fresh ingredients for their Menu. I ordered the Chicken Coronation Salad and my girlfriend ordered a turkey sandwich, they were both delicious and fresh. As I said, the staff were incredibly friendly. It turns out one of our waiters was hung over and the chef had a good time making fun of him for it. It was a good laugh and fortunately his hangover didn't effect our service. Overall I'd say this is a great place to stop by for some fresh food with an awesome outdoor /rustic atmosphere.

On the way to another restaurant, we stopped and ate here instead because it smelled aMAZing. Fun atmosphere with outdoor seating and torches. But most importantly, fabulous food. The chef makes his own menu each night and prepares everything fresh from scratch, and wow, can you taste it. Each bite was a burst of multiple delectable flavors. Definitely my favorite restaurant in St Augustine.

We did not go looking for this place. I booked a Night in Lights Carriage tour, which departed from Isabella's Cuba Bar next door. When we arrived early we decided to grab a bit. After looking over the Gourmet Hut menu we decided to give it a try. What a nice surprise! Apparently they have several chefs and the menu is different every night. My wife and I both ordered the Potato Crusted Salmon on a bed of spinach, which was excellent. The chef, Ben, was very friendly and helpful. The tea and coffee come from the coffee shop next door that belongs to same ownership. We ordered a couple of their many varieties of hot chocolate to go and it was awesome as well. The chef and the owner verified that it was OK to take along with us on our carriage ride. Since it was cool and rainy it was a perfect night for a hot chocolate. The blonde, British lady that I have read others complain about in their reviews was very nice and helpful to us. She was kind of quirky and funny, but definitely not rude or curt. She was actually quite helpful and came by to make sure our dinner was acceptable. We will definitely go back to the Gourmet Hut and also drop by Isabella's for a visit as well. The owner was on our carriage ride. She was very nice.

Food was amazing. We had the crab stuffed avocado which disappeared quickly, the shish kebab made to order and a vegetarian pasta with cream sauce. Every plate was emptied because of the freshness and tastiness of the meals. When we happened upon the quaint little building, we were immediately drawn in by the reasonably priced and enticing menu as well as the mouth- watering aromas emanating from the kitchen. We walked up the path and were met by a table of diners -- so we thought -- who greeted us warmly, telling us to go on in and the chefs would be happy to help us. When we went in to order, we were told by the chefs that we were limited to only what was on the hand-written dinner menu out front. Disappointed we decided we would try another restaurant and we turned to leave. After a few steps down the road, I decided to turn back and say something to those "diners" who had greeted us about the disappointing reception we received fro the chefs. Well, it turns out they were the owners and a young man named Millard immediately jumped up and said he would take care of us. He took our orders, making very nice suggestions to the teenager in our group as well as a very nice white wine suggestion to go with my meal. And he went back to the kitchen to make our meals, himself, even while his own was getting cold. He even went back to remake one of the meals after he mistakenly added onions to the entree of the person in our party who was allergic. It was a rocky start but Millard and Beth, the owner, really made a great save. We had an enjoyable dining experience and look forward to a return visit. Thank you! And next time I look forward to capping off the meal with a coffee on the other side of the courtyard owned by the same woman.

Best food and service ever! My husband and I stumbled upon this place after the original restaurant we wanted to go to ran out of the catch of the day. This was the best "stumble" ever! The service from the owner and the chef was delightful. The food was so absolutely delicious! We ended up staying there talking and enjoying the company for over 2 hours. Can't wait to go back!

We saw good reviews on Yelp and decided to give this place a try. It was late (around 9) and when we drove by the place was small and empty. We decided to try it anyways. I am so glad we did! The service was amazing. Becca was so informative and helpful. She explained the specials and dishes and gave us suggestions. All of the ingredients are high quality and fresh. What looked like a small disappointing eating area was actually adorable and intimate. We spent more than we had planned but it was well worth every penny.

Fantastic food from such a beautiful place just to sit and appreciate your surroundings. Chef/waiter was incredibly helpful and attentive and the meal was amazing, definitely recommend to anyone visiting St Augustine.

Delicious!! Went for lunch, had the avocado delight Panini at 8$. Haas Avacado, cucumber, carrot, tomato, onion, cheese, greens. Loved it. Side of Homemade hummus was killer. Bread was very light and tender, which is surprising on a pressed sandwich. Great atmosphere in historic St. Augustine. They offer beer and wine if you want it. Was quaint, tasty, affordable, andwith free WiFi put me over the top to a full five star rating.

My husband and I were walking and enjoying St Augustine, from the Coquina walls to the old buildings...and then we came across these two old, old wooden buildings, with vines growing all over them, out of a scene of old Europe - We both looked over the menu posted outside, which boasted everything from Breakfast (all day!) to wraps, paninis, fresh gourmet salads, with lots of gluten free and allergy-friendly options of all types, daily specials on the chalkboard outside, and a joined-but-separate building that serves all types of coffee, smoothies, fruit drinks and home baked decedent confectioneries... We had a bowl of the Potato Leek Soup (the soup of the day), a tuna salad sandwich (prepared with a different twist - and DELICIOUS!), a custom Dark Forest German brownie bar and a Milky Way latte. How was it? Extremely tasteful but never overly decadent, filling portions, outside courtyard seating, an amazingly personal and friendly owner - and, everything is around $6-8, from sandwiches to breakfasts. I don't remember fine details of what we ate - we were just soaking in a lovely place that really stuck out to define yet another reason why St Augustine is a magical city to explore and experience. We both can't wait to head back and try another bite from the kitchen. This time, we both won't have any reservations to try the other more adventurous things on the menu.

I was in St. Augustine visiting some family, and my girlfriend and I decided that we wanted to have a nice dinner. I am a chef my self, in Omaha, Nebraska and I wanted something really nice and out of the ordinary. Most of the places around were very touristy and the food just seemed to be bar food. Until we stumbled upon the Gourmet Hut. My girlfriend who is from Florida recognized this place, as it use to be a leather shop. Most of the dining was in the garden area outside which was very nice, but we decided we wanted to eat inside, which was a little bigger of a table. We started off with a bottle of white wine that was recommended by our server, it was great. We then shared the watermelon summer salad, that was very fresh and seasonal. She had the duck breast, and I had the parmesan crusted ribeye. Everything was cooked perfectly and the vegetables and presentation were amazing. For dessert we had cheese cake and key lime pie, they came from a dessert place near by, but were still very tasted and fresh. Over all this place was just a wonderful experience. You can tell the menu changes often and they really put a lot of thought in to it. Also the staff was very attentive and helpful. If I am ever in St. Aug again I will definitely come back.

delicious breakfast. Ingredients were fresh and service was prompt. The only downside is that it is outdoor seating, and it was SUPER HOT. Would probably be great in the fall/winter, but during a brutally hot summer? I'd skip this place in favor of somewhere with A/C.

Great place! Homemade food that is delicious! Staff is super friendly. My favorite little spot in St. Augustine. Outdoor seating only.

This is as good as it gets when looking for atmosphere, quality and price. Chef was charming and sincere about his craft of preparing quality food. Highly recommend!!!

I was in St. Augustine as a tourist the third week of March, 2013. I was with my mother and 6 year old daughter. We stumbled upon the Gourmet Hut, and, since it was raining were lucky to get an indoor seat. They serve eggs for lunch, which is just what my daughter wanted, my mom had the shrimp salad -which was AMAZING and I had a turkey panini that was huge and very tasty. The service was attentive. If you sit inside you see everything that is happening because the kitchen is right there. There seemed to be a lot of discussion and coordination going on back there, a little more than seemed necessary since we were the only diners. Anyway, it was good and my mom said it was her favorite meal of the whole vacation. The next day (also raining) after looking at other options, we decided to go back, my mom had a wonderful Peruvian shrimp soup. There were different staff in the kitchen and the eggs were not as good the second time, but overall I still say this is a great place. We did meet the owner who did seem frazzled but she was funny and welcoming. The coffee drinks come from Crucial Coffee, which is next door.

My husband and I just went to the Gourmet Hut hoping to have a lovely dinner & experience after seeing the great reviews here. We walked up to the menu & were greeted by a blonde, curly haired elderly woman (I believe she had a British accent) who started talking to us about the menu, then commented to another couple walking up about her red top & proceeded to talk to them about the menu and ignored us from that point. The other couple walked over to the grill to view the prime rib and walked out, deciding not to eat there. The hostess then walked straight past us (we were still standing at the menu waiting to be seated) and walked over to Isabella's Cuba Bar to talk to a woman who I presume was an acquaintance. We waited at the entrance for about 3 minutes and she continued to casually chat with the woman, so we left at that point. We were very offended to be blatantly ignored by the hostess...so much so that we were moved to post this review immediately. We appreciate great food, but customer service goes a long way. And this was on Christmas. Quite a disappointment.

Take my two star rating with a grain of salt because there's a chance I might of tried the wrong dish here. I stopped in for a breakfast burrito, because I've been craving one since moving to Palm Coast 2 years ago. Not a whole lot in the way of mexican food in Florida... This obviously isn't a Mexican place anyway, but I expected better flavor based on the previous reviews. The salsa that came with it was a canned tomato mixture that was kinda sweet tasting without much spice. I had some mediocre key lime pie with it that was highly welcomed after eating the lackluster burrito. So there might be good dishes here, just not what I had.

Who knew that a tiny hole in the wall could be such a quaint, provincial find? Tucked away on a cobblestone sidestreet within easy walking distance from the Fort, this quiet place provides a wide variety of options on the menu, prepared with a pretty flavorful, French Caribbean flare. The owner/chef is sincere and talented in what he creates and serves. However, parking is scarce in the public lot a couple of blocks away, there is no indoor seating, only a couple of 4-tops under the porch, and 4 more small tables in the garden, much like a quaint sidewalk cafe. If the weather is great, and you don't have food allergies, this is a good place to have a tasty meal. However, gluten free options are limited to the standard salad fare, other food allergies are very difficult to accommodate here... and there were a few mix-ups during our visit. It's not the place for everyone, not the place for every day...but the food is far from everyday fare.

This place is the complete opposite of tourist traps and chain restaurants. We had a wonderful dinner that tasted completely homemade, and while the entire operation was run by one person who served as both chef and waiter, he did a great job and we got excellent service with a smile. Salads were nicely assembled with a large variety of vegetables, including greens, carrots, alfalfa sprouts, green pepper, and onions. The mango vinaigrette was delicious! (It's usually a good sign when you have a large choice of unique dressings.) The vegetable lasagna (with optional meat sauce!) was delicious, and so large that I had to take half of it home. The chicken pot pie was served between two sheets of light, flaky puff pastry and had a good balance of sauce to filling. Their sister establishment next door, Crucial Coffee, offers a great selection of homemade desserts and coffees. The weather was pleasant and because there were only a couple of tables on the (covered) porch, we took advantage of their outdoor seating to dine al fresco.

While walking down the beautiful streets of St. Augustine the choice of were to go for lunch was a little overwheming.. the larger scale restaurants were pretty much packed of course because they are over promoted as being the best.. not to take anything away from them but as we made our decision to go to tapas we passed this little old looking house which happened to be a small sandwich place.. and I can trully tell you that was and will be every time we come back the best little sandwich shop I've ever come across all my travels and vacays.. it was all natural kind of place.. the avocados were just great and the tomatos were amazing.. everything about this place was just perfect.. great customer service and to make things better there is a coffee place right next door that will bring ur drink over to you and vice versa.. loved it!

After passing this hut several times, we stopped to look at the menu and to our surprise the chef/owner, Billy, personally came out to explain the specials. As we came into the restaurant there were two quaint tables with linens, and lovely outdoor seating in a rustic garden. You walked into the kitchen to order your meal. Billy stated all ingredients are purchased locally and daily, a local business supporting local businesses. My main recommendation to anyone dining here is to allow Billy to find out your taste for the night and allow him creative freedom to create a masterpiece for you, along with the wine or beer for your entrée. We started with a soup appetizer of chicken and vegetable soup and a roasted pepper and ginger bisque. The chicken and vegetable soup was a light broth with a hearty serving full of vegetables and chickpeas. The roasted pepper ginger bisque was delightfully fragrant with a hint of curry and cayenne pepper and decorated with cilantro. The main course was stuffed fresh grouper with roasted peppers, sausage and goat cheese over jasmine rice and a lemon butter sauce with sautéed fresh vegetables. The other dish was curry crusted chicken served over jasmine rice in a curried coconut sauce and sautéed fresh vegetables. While salt and pepper are provided on the table we did not even need to add any other additional flavor to the meal. We completed our meal with a very light tiramisu and cheesecake with pureed fruit and sauce with a café con leche and mocha pumpkin spiced coffee. This was a complete dining experience where the chef was personal, made you feel like you were at home and treated to culinary delights. Normally my boyfriend is one to eat and run however we enjoyed the experience so much 2 hours passed without even a blink of an eye. The price was definitely cheaper than what you would find on the main strip and you are getting the same, no wait better food. You will not be disappointed with your selection however if you are looking for a hotdog or burger this is not the place you would want to go, though it would be the best burger or hotdog you would miss having a superior meal. We unfortunately found this delight the night before we left however when we come back you can guarantee that we will definitely without reservation or hesitation visit The Gourmet Hut again for a fantastic meal and dining experience! Thanks Billy! Kathy & Paul

Most of the food was excellent but service was appalling - 1 hour for sandwiches when they have like 5 tables. Seemed to be run by someone who always wanted to run a restaurant but had never eaten in one. Smoothies were dire syrup based ones. Pity as good location and great food.

Such a great find in historic st Augustine. Farm to table shack practically with a English garden right there. The food is all made by a chef. Had the turkey panini and vegetable frittata. Both were amazing. Seating is outside in the English garden or just a few tables near the order counter. Menus are written on a chalk board. They serve wine and choice beer. I don't suggest the waffle. Though served with amazing fresh fruit. It was yesterday's batch frozen. I could have used a steak knife to saw through it. In addition, they used mrs butterworths syrup. I'd go back to try it. But I would ask more questions on the quality Just to avoid pre cooked waffles and non local syrup. But I bet the good that they do cook from local is pretty amazing. I was impressed.

Just had the most amazing experience here. To think we almost didn't make the left turn on Cuna St from Charlotte! Food is delicious, fresh & local - our server, Sierra, was super friendly and generous with her time. Garden is romantically lit. We sat in front of an industrial fan that seriously helped with the humidity during our 9:PM al fresco dinner. They're next to a coffee shop (same owner?) we may visit again for breakfast. Yes, it's not inexpensive ... But the experience is well worth it!

Quaint, nice out of the ordinary dining experience. We had breakfast here, maybe other meal periods different. There was only one other group of 3 on a random Saturday morning in June (out of season). Seating area is mulched garden with a lot of flora and fauna and shade area including a nice veranda to keep the lobster baked tourists out of the sun.Order inside of a little structure, sit in garden and the same person that took our order, cooked it, served it. I know only 6 people including my family but man she worked hard! The Mexican omelet was delicious, the 2 yogurt parfaits the two ladies of the family had were large with fresh fruit and a lot of honey, attractively displayed in martini glass vessels. I think breakfast set the three of us back about 50 bucks including the generous gratuity for the hard worker. Very cool coffee shop on other end of the garden, just a few steps away fro the pirate museum, then walk over to fort then walk up sea wall to buy tickets for boat tour and you are then ready for a nap.
(3)Kelsey F.
We had the avocado and salsa which was nice. But the beers were $8 each!! That's ridiculous for a Stella.
(2)Michael R.
Great idea with the sandwiches, but mine was served REALLY HOT. My tomato became a "stewed tomato ". Guy server had attitude today. , maybe why sandwich came scorched. Everyone else here very polite and attentive. Might try again...
(2)Dan S.
Pros: Location is fantastic. You will dine in a nicely appointed outdoor garden area, Your table sits upon wood chips (which may make seating a bit off level). Food was 5 stars. We had the Atlantic Tilefish and Mutton Grouper specials. They were fresh and delicious and the portion was reasonable for the $25 - $30 price. We started with the the $13 Fried Green Tomatoes which were lovely. They had a special where if you ordered an entree AND and appetizer the bread and olive plate would be free. Otherwise it is $8. This restaurant is FARM to TABLE and it stands out from much of the touristy crap in the area. The server poured me two glasses of Pinot Grigio. Both were very generous pours. Cons: Maybe not a con but the chef would rather deliver high quality food and serve fewer tables. Therefore, during the busy season, they turn away customers even if there are several available tables. The kitchen gets backed up quickly. We arrived for our 7:45 reservation and did not receive our entrees until 9:35. Most other tables suffered similar wait times. Luckily we had the bread plate which kept us conscious. Plus the ambience was so lovely that there was not much more to do that would have been more delightful. The owner? (South African Lady) was not all that apologetic. It bothered me to see her bark orders at her busy waitstaff while she stood around and did virtually nothing. She told one server to seat a table while that server was taking a group photo of another table. Ms. South Africa could have done it herself and tried helping out a bit more on such a busy night. Maybe she could have put the gloves on and helped out that exceedingly slow kitchen?? The owner stopped by our table at one point to complain about some homeless guy across the street. She said nothing about the fact that we had been waiting over 1.5 hours for food and it still hadn't arrived. Her inability to manage stress was constantly reflected in her tone and demeanor as she traversed the restaurant. She made her problems our problems....something I was taught never to do as a former restaurant worker. Verdict: Yes, try this place out. Food is great. Avoid if too busy. Hope it doesn't rain. Be prepared to spend a long time with your date in a beautiful location.

So cute, so quant, but behind all that are amazing, personable chefs creating delicious masterpieces. The menu changes daily between breakfast, lunch, and dinner! The service from the chef himself was great and we received our food in a timely manner. Chef ? Served up a delicious shrimp taco special filled with red cabbage, avocado, fresh mangos, and a lot of shrimp! I'm sure there were more things that went into that.. But I pretty much engulfed it before I could really look. The taco was so refreshing! We also ordered the chicken salad and boy was that yummy too. The chicken was shredded and seasoned to perfection. Yes, we had a great lunch.. And it wasn't too heavy either.

I've lived in St. Augustine 9 years now and I have never eaten here...what was I thinking?!? Tried the Hawaiian Lei panini and it was to die for! So delicious! The location is awesome and the food just outstanding. Try it out!

Worth the wait. Great food, & nice atmosphere. Perfect spot for brunch, coffee next door & perfect omelette

DELICIOUS. Somehow I have not eaten here until recently and it was amazing. Will be going back again! Service was fabulous as well!

We stumbled upon the Gourmet Hut and fell in love with the charming garden atmosphere. The experience, however, was less than ideal. My group of 5 ladies arrived for breakfast around 10am. We ordered and found our table and then everything went downhill: 1. They were out of water glasses 2. The water carafe had a moldy top 3. They didn't have ice 4. Our meals arrived seperately and thankfully we let the first start eating. It was an hour between the first meal arriving and the last. 5. 2 orders were incorrect and had to be returned- these took an additional 20 minutes and weren't anything difficult- a bagel sandwich! 6. Checks were incorrect Basically, I don't recommend anything about this place. We will not return!

Cute place/ambiance. No Restrooms! Good luck finding one too. Had coronation salad - small and not anything special. Hummus appetizer was very good. Fiancé had gourmet turkey panini - cheese not melted more of sandwich not panini - it was ok. We probably won't return.

Strange establishment, other reviews back that up as well. No menu for reference, only a dry erase board that servers must lug around the dining area and share between tables. Long wait for food. Tables aren't very comfy and the wait for the food was considerable. For the price I would've enjoyed a bigger portion and amped flavor. My steak was cooked to perfection but the vegetable ratatouille was lacking. Also would recommend getting cloth napkins instead of brown cheap paper towels. Wouldn't recommend as there are too many other places that provide quality food consistent with price and organized service located in Saint Augustine.

The owner has to get out of the way and let her staff and kitchen do their thing without her micromanaging. Our fish was overcooked. No one else was there. Other waiter banged on tables to grab our waitresses attention, cajoling her to do clean up work at the ends of the night. Way over priced. Two bottles of wine, two entrees, and dessert for $170? Not worth it.

This place is superb for outdoor branching (as they really don't have any real indoor seating). It quite literally is a hut adorned with knock knacks and a chalk menu that is scribbled on the wall. However, what the lack in showmanship is made up for with the quality of food. Firstly, an order of chips and salsa stuffed into an avocado was ordered. Although I do not like avocados, this dish looked amazing. I ended up deciding on the Mexican scrambled eggs with home fries and was not disappointed. They came with all the accoutrements that you would think: salsa, sour cream, cheese, etc. What made this great was the chorizo. It was cooked perfectly. As well, the service was superb. They quickly brought us a bowl of water for our dog, and we're very accommodating. I highly recommend this for lunch spot in nice weather!

After reading some of the reviews I decided to post. It is hard to review a place who's menu changes daily but it is clear there is a lack of consistency which shouldn't occur in $$$ restaurant. Our waitress was new, which is fine, everyone starts somewhere but here are the other things that threw me. 1. No proper napkins. They were bathroom paper towels. Those brown trifold ones. It could be charming, but not in this $$$ restaurant. 2. No menus. They used hand written blackboards shuffling them from table to table. I can't imagine that it takes more than 20 minutes to print up 20 menus daily, which can be recycled. 3. The food....I have to say that I was REALLY disappointed. My husband wanted his filet medium and it came out well done. The "white truffle risotto" was a scoop of white rice with zero truffle flavor (or any flavor). His mahi was overcooked, sadly, and stuffed with crab and way over salted. My ahi tuna was seared properly but was later on top of a ton of seaweed salad. So why the two stars? The ambiance was really nice. I really, REALLY wanted to like this place and again, I didn't know if I could really review it based off the one nights menu but I had to when another couple sitting next to us also expressed their disappointment. At more than $25/plate, a filet should be properly prepared, always. Like other reviewers, we did tell our waitress of the issue and she did offer to bring another steak but at the completion of our meal to which we declined.

Dinner was excellent. Large portions, almost too much! The food is creative and well prepared. Try the bruschetta! Fresh mozzarella with berries. It would also make a wonderful desert! The chicken Athens was delicious. The stuffed grouper was also excellent. The menu changes daily so these may or may not be available. Don't miss this small charming outdoor restaurant in the heart of the historic district.

Cute little place with mostly outside seating, there are two tables inside with two seats each. Outside there are nine tables. Limited menu that changes daily. At night there are small lights to give the place a nice look. Breakfast was two eggs with cheese, bacon on a croissant and Eggs Benedict. Dinner has fresh fish and other items.

A MUST try. Farm to table. Small but amazing menu. Had a tempura fried fresh mozzarella w balsamic reduction to kill for and a seared teriyaki tuna also amazing. Great wine list. You eat in this gorgeous lush garden. Go go go!!!

This place is unique. It has it's own special charm about it. As the menu changes daily, I'm sure everything is fresh and delicious. But what we had that evening was spectacular. To start, we had a bruchetta with brie and strawberries. Highly recommend for a romantic dinner. If you have mosquito spray, that wouldn't be a bad idea either.

The food was mediocre and SUPER expensive. Wouldn't recommend it. It cost $60 for two breakfast entrees, and the cups to serve water were extremely dirty.
